Flip-flops and brake lights, and I kind of get it now.

By ten a.m. the bridge is backed up slow
Rental Jeeps lined up by the Gulf Coast road
Girl in a sunhat askin' where the locals go
Buddy, if I told you, we'd lose that too
Snowbirds posted up at the marina bar
Talkin' 'bout how lucky they think we are
Meanwhile old man Eddie's cussin' at the light
Takes him twenty minutes just to turn right
Yeah every year about this time
The whole world shows up chasin' sunshine
It's winter traffic in my hometown
Flip-flops and brake lights slowin' down
Perfect weather, nowhere to park
Sunset packed from the beach to the bars
Yeah they all came lookin' for a piece of gold
That Gulf Coast water and the warm front rollin'
And honestly I kinda get it now
Why everybody wants this town
Couple from Ohio takin' pictures in the street
Kid with a metal detector by my favorite beach
Waitress at the diner workin' double shifts
Still callin' everybody "baby" with a grin
You can hear three accents in the bait shop line
And somebody's uncle playin' Buffett every night
Yeah it's chaos but it's ours somehow
Guess this place still knows how to pull folks in
And every year I say I'm done
Then January hits and here they come
It's winter traffic in my hometown
Flip-flops and brake lights slowin' down
Perfect weather, nowhere to park
Sunset packed from the beach to the bars
Yeah they all came lookin' for a piece of gold
That Gulf Coast water and the warm front rollin'
And honestly I kinda get it now
Why everybody wants this town
Come July they'll all disappear
Roads open up and the locals reappear
But right now the town's alive at night
String lights glowin' underneath the palms
And maybe that ain't such a bad thing after all
It's winter traffic in my hometown
Tourists everywhere but the sun's still gold now
Music spillin' out into the street
Salt air driftin' through the heat
Yeah sometimes paradise gets a little loud
But it still feels good when the winter crowd rolls in
Guess after all these years around
I still love this town
