Behind the Song
The Sweet Tea Song
August 2, 2026
"Every Sweet Thing" is a list song, which is a dangerous thing to attempt — list songs go corny fast if the list isn't true.
So I made a rule while writing it: nothing abstract allowed. She's not "my everything." She's the sugar in the sweet tea. The salt on the fries. The porch on the front step when summer gets brighter. Small, real, tastable things — because that's actually how loving somebody works. It's not one big feeling; it's a hundred little ones with flavors.
My favorite line in it is the simplest: every sweet thing I love tastes a little like your kiss. The whole song was reverse-engineered from that one sentence.
It closes the new album. Seemed like the right last word.
